    Hi and also a question...

Hi all. Just wanted to say this forum is the best. Tried a few guides but most of them didn't not have all the files necessary. The tutorials here had all files and the guide was easy step by step.

I do have a question and I have not really searched yet. I was about to search my question but there was a note that say I haven't posted anything yet and it would be nice to post and become active.

Anyways, I mod my wii on 4.1 Is it now safe/okay to update to the latest updated firmware? Would it erase the homebrew and all mods. Would I have to do it again? Would I be able to surf the net and do online play? Thanks in advance.

I believe the new nintendo updates search and destroy HBC (as in you download their update and in its install it looks for homebrew channels and then deletes it), but all wii's can be modded, however, to save time and trouble I would just stay on 4.1 (I've heard nothing but problems with 4.2)

I would not update to 4.2... and geek9 is correct in that when you update through "n" it kills the HBC and any softmods....

Hi. Thanks for you reply. I'm fine with not updating but one more question, can I go online, use the wifi connection and be okay? I actually don't use the Wii much till after I got it mod so I don't know if it will automatically update in the background as I use the wifi.

make sure you go into the wii settings and shut-off the Wii-Connect24 (turn off)... and you can go online with playing games (mario cart, 007, COD) but the only way that you can get burned from "n" is if you use cheats in the games and then go online.... also you can search the internet channel, i would search the forums about this since i have not used that channel since i paid for it (i know sry - lol) 1 yr ago before i softmodded..

    This forum is for introductions

Hi and welcome to WiiHacks catsman

If you need advice or help for anything Wii related you have joined the right site, whether its hard or soft modded.

Don’t be shy, ask if you are stuck, just don’t expect other people to do all the work for you.

Before you start anything, make sure you read the rules go over the tutorials, and most importantly, search before asking questions.

Make sure you post in the correct areas of the forums.

Here is the site index wiihacks ultimate index written by ShadowSonic2

If you are starting from scratch, new 3.1-4.1 written by Dogeggs

If you already have Homebrew, upgrade to 4.1 written by Dogeggs

Don’t update to 4.2, but if you are already on 4.2, complete 4.2 guide written by Messie

2009 Wii Serial numbers after LU3884XXXX and LEH2676XXXX have probably got the new D3-2 chip that prevents playing backup DVD's. They can still use original discs and USB loaders.

And please do donate to the forum if you are able so we can go on helping the Wii community.

I hope you have a great time here at WiiHacks, and increase your knowledge of all things Wii.
