Smile Greetings from snowy Chicago - newbie...

    Hello all,

Thanks to the incredible talent and great guides on this site....

It's snowing and cold here, so I'm playing my wii as much as possible.

    wii ver 4.2U, S/N:LU658XXXXX

I managed to get HBC installed last night with no problems - love the bubbles.

Mission: Main goal is to backup all of existing wii Discs.

First problem: Having issues running Superdump 1.1/1.2 or 1.3. App starts, but when I load BAM sector not found error and black -- must reboot wii.

Cause: Likely, because I have not installed cIOS 38rev 14. (read that from this forum)

I will be using the guide provided here to do that tonight.

    Any tips for this newbie??

Wish me luck, and I'll report back tomorrow am!

    Tom

    Hi Emuhack,

Thanks for the reply, and that one looked like it was up to 4.1.

    Since I have 4.2 wouldn't I want to be following Messie's guide?

As you are a first time poster here is some info you will need.
Yes follow the 4.2 guide if you are already on it.

    Hi and welcome to WiiHacks

If you need advice or help for anything Wii related you have joined the right site, whether its hard or soft modded.

Donít be shy, ask if you are stuck, just donít expect other people to do all the work for you.

Before you start anything, make sure you read the rules go over the tutorials, and most importantly, search before asking questions.

Make sure you post in the correct areas of the forums.

Here is the site index Ultimate WiiHacks Index written by ShadowSonic2

If you are starting from scratch, new 3.1-4.1 written by Dogeggs

If you already have Homebrew, upgrade to 4.1 written by Dogeggs

Donít update to 4.2, but if you are already on 4.2, complete 4.2 guide written by Messie

2009 Wii Serial numbers after LU3884XXXX and LEH2676XXXX have probably got the new D3-2 chip that prevents playing backup DVD's. They can still use original discs and USB loaders.

And please do donate to the forum if you are able so we can go on helping the Wii community.

I hope you have a great time here at WiiHacks, and increase your knowledge of all things Wii.

Smile Need advice and want to share some some thanks....

Thank you to this board and its moderators -- I was able to get the basic mods working (via great guides) and some persistence.

I'm using an WBFS formatted external drive to store all games loaded via gxUSBloader. The drive has a power-brick, so it's not the most convenient, but hey -- it works!

    Question:
What is the best way to copy games from the external drive to a notebook using Wi/Fi?

Just looking for advice on what best program to use is...

Thanks again guys, what a great board and group of minds.

    -Tom
