    Another noob with 1101 error

Hope not to frustrate anyone, been reading, searching, reading some more.

got 4.2, followed Messie's full hacking guide and it was flawless. Bought 100 Verbatim DVD-r and so far have 8 coasters that give me 1101 with Neogammer r6 (Cios 36rev10) and Neogammer 7 with cios 38rev14 and all combination's therein. Anyway, had a spare HD and got them working under USB. Not the preferred way with little kids if you know what I mean.

    looking forward to learning..

If this site and our members have provided substantive help, you can Donate to the forum and get a nice banner under your name and gain access to the donator forums.

Glad to hear that the softmod of your 4.2Wii went well. Sorry to hear about your coasters=hope the kids like playing with the shiny discs. I presume you also tried the usual variations on burning speed. Maybe you have one of the newer Wiis that cannot play backup discs. Enjoy your stay with us.

If you have already tried using Verbatin DVD-R blanks and ImgBurn at 4X and 2.4X burn speeds. I would consider the possibility, if your Wii is a fairly recent purchase, that your Wii has the D3-2 chip. That chip, as intended by Nintendo, makes it impossible to read DVD-R discs. The workaround to to do as dondk has done, install an external USB HDD:

well, what I did was undo the soft mod. Does not take that long and rules out hardware issues. I would suggest listening to the drive with both retail and burned disc's, you should hear the difference. With a 1101 that pop's up immediately, the drive barely spins.

In my case after reverting back I ended up with the drive still not working for retail disc's. That pretty much secured a hardware failure.
