Hello and welcome to the wiihacks community.

I know you are anxious to get started; but, there are a few items to cover before you post your questions or start doing anything to your Wii. If you intend to make or have made software-based modifications (softmod) of your Wii, including installation of the Homebrew Channel, DO NOT ACCEPT THE NINTENDO UPDATE TO SYSTEM MENU VERSION 4.2.

Make sure you read the rules of this site. There are a number of tutorials and guides available to assist you. Make sure to either look through the tutorials or use the search function before asking questions. While the moderators, staff, and members of this community are willing to help you, some effort on your part to read, research, and follow the rules is expected. To get the best response to your question(s), post in the associated forum areas. This is very important as inappropriate posting could get you restricted to the reading room or even banned. If, after looking at the tutorials and trying to search, you still need help or just want to post a very basic type of question, go to the http://www.wiihacks.com/wiihacks-newbie-corner/.

If this site and our members have provided substantive help, you can Donate to the forum and get a nice banner under your name and gain access to the donator forums.

Some of the Korean Wiis that were flashed with an American NAND and ended up with the 003 error code have a recovery mode. Check to see if yours does. Get a GameCube controller, plug into GC port #4 and simultaneously press the up/down/left/right button (might need to remove cover)-need more info-Google the term savemiifree. Good luck. Enjoy your stay with us.

    to weeman247:
I think I installed bootmii, but it never worked... (I just discovered what was that for!!!)
As to now, I'm pretty sure I have a korean wii, with us system menu, softmodded. I upgraded it to 4.0 and then 4.1 (with Waninkoko update) had ios 249 222 and 223 installed
and it used to work great with a WD 250GB passport HD
now it shows error 003:bla bla bla
inserting a modded NGC controller in port 4 and pressing the 4 directions appears the black screen with 4.2U on the bottom right... inserting original WII-DVD (wii-fit US), the disk spins, and after a while the screen goes completely black.
next movethat i'll try will be a wasaby DX and some autobooting disks.
with NSUD I downloaded all the ios for a korean wii upgrade 4.2 and I will try to install them one by one... maybe in the same order a system update would... maybe!
this is the only mad idea I had!

hello again, on wiibrew i've just found this:

    Description

The so called Error 003 occurs when a Korean Wii gets region switched to a different region and then updated to 4.2 via the online update.
    Technical cause

System menu 4.2x calls a new ES Ioctlv(0x45) which got added in IOS70 on other IOS' this Ioctlv always returns -1017.

If the korean-common-key is present IOS70 will return 0, which will then trigger the error in the system menu.
    Fixing

Since the rescue menu still works you can use it to fix your Wii, you also need a drivechip or any other device making your Wii capable to play burned discs.

Get one of the games which load the exploit from SD (ie. SSBB or Indiana Pwns(?)). Create an autoboot disc from it and use it to run i.e. a wad installer to install a different system menu or a tool which patches the check out.
and this is almost what i thought i could do to fix the problem... but... how do I do all this...
tomorrow I should get the Wasabi DX from TNT traco, I already have some autoboot DVDs and I also have the system menu... but which one shoul I use: the korean one?
and should I install it in the ios70?
Or should I install all the IOSes of the korean update the way they are installed during the Nintendo Update?
maybe near to the solution, but I still need some help!

looks as if you will have to install the Korean menu again back to the pre-update.
I have scrolled through loads of forums for a guide for you but no-one has solved this yet, you could maybe be the first.
