Hello everyone. I am of course a 'tenured' video gamer, which is the PC way of saying I'm a long standing video game junkie. I had been using emulators for about forever, and have been utilizing DS flash cards for some years now.
Let me say that I am in no way a hacker; i posess no in depth programming knowledge and no savvy in the fine art of subverting weaknesses in the complex programming of others. Nor am I one of these hack enthusiasts that search for the 'silver bullet' hack; being the one download, one install super hack that facilitates no problems and does everything that you want. Lucky for me, as Wii hacking is certainly a complicated and multifaceted creature.
As I first started searching the grand interwebs for the secrets of wii hacking, the word 'overwhelming' comes to mind. There's no shortage of tantalizing looking websites and DIY videos that make the hacking process feel like a foray at your local drive through. Understandable. Most people want the end result without a hassle; the aforementioned 'silver bullet'.
I have a 4.3u of the older stlye Wii and was able to LetterBomb the wheels off of it. Party. The Homebrew channel revived my Wii, allowing me to get much more playtime out of the old girl(My WiiU had been gloating incessantly about it going into retirement).
But as I search the tutorials, FAQS, and forums, I find myself wanting to know more about the 'how'. I was deep into learning about the USB configureable loader before I attempted to get it working. cIOS, IOS, NAND, WBFS, d2x, It felt like college all over again.
And that was not really a bad thing. I even took notes.
The point of all this is that this site is more than comprehensive. It really is the best place to learn about the inner workings of the Wii, and the plethora of things that one can do if they simply attempt to understand it. Kudos to wiihacks.com. May it continue to thive, even after every poorly named sequel to Nintendo's greatest system.

Once you have completed the guide you need to ascertain if your wii is capable of playing backups via the disc drive or whether you need to be usb loading.
Wii's post 2009 generally cannot play backups via the disc drive and have to use usb loading.
I recommend usb loading anyway as you can add an remove your games easily and there is no wear and tear on your disc drive and no messing about with discs etc.
