Ah... so cool to have done the mods

Hi folks,

Just wanted to drop back in again, for my first "official" visit, and my hundred and eleventy-seventh "un-official" visit. I wanted to say thanks for the awesome and very helpful site, and introduce myself.

My 3 boys and I got our Wii as a gift from a family member that came to stay with us for a couple of weeks back in June. My boys are aged 5, 6, and 10 and have some difficulty remembering to take care of game disks, or movie or audio disks either for that matter. About a month ago I started looking around on Google for how to let them play the games without having the disks around. Google, and Wiihacks to the rescue. After reading and thinking about the whole thing about a month, with info mostly from Wiihacks, I finally got Mauifrog and Guide Bots "Softmod ANY Wii" procedure completed late last night. It was cool, scary, easy, and difficult all at the same time, but it went without any problems the first time through. Ripped about 5 or 6 favorite games to an NTFS drive and went to bed after hiding the disks. The boys got up this morning and right on playing with out needing the game disks. They've been at it all day with no problems. Sweet!

So, about me. I'm dad, of course, but at work I'm a 3rd level or Senior System Engineer and work mostly on Windows 2003, 2008, and a little bit on the new 2012 server platforms for a large IT support company. I don't hack much anymore, it's too risky in the business world and there are too may "safeguards" and other practices that make hacks very much a thing of the past for me.

I have a bit of background in hacking (usually "white-hat"), having rummaged around in the ROM, RAM, I/O, and other low level stuff in the Apple ][+, //e, and //gs. This new stuff, while it appears to be much the same, is still very different. So, if you like, we can talk about how the 6502 could run circles around the 8086, or about DTE, CTS, and the like, or maybe how xmodem was "dependable" and zmodem was "better".

The new stuff, thought, well, I've only got a couple of light years to go before I know anywhere close to what the folks around here must know. Hopefully, it'll be a fun time thought.

Backing up your games can be done two ways.1.) Through your Usb Loaders. 2.)Through you computer using The Wii Game manager.
To Backup your games This program Will Be needed.

Please be aware that newer Wii's Do not play back up disc from the disc drive. Your only option will be to load from the Usb port.Usb Loading is recommeded as you will not have any lag and if your lazy like me,you won't have to get up to change the Disc.:)

Before you go out and spend money on a HDD for your Wii,make sure that it is on the Compatibility list.This will save you time and money.

Formatting your Hard drive is not hard.Read this Guide a couple of times and then proceed to format.You will be pleased with the out come.I recommend the fat32 guide ,because you have your HBC/Emulators run from your HDD and your Usb Loaders With out the need of having two partition's.
