HD Movies on Wii?

Is it possible for Wii to output a movie in HD resolution (or just higher than 480p) through homebrew?

I mean my Wii can play HD movies (in avi/mkv/mp4...etc format), but they don't appear on my LCD screen in HD (I only have a composite cable atm)

So if I were to get a Wii component cable, would that enable my Wii to output something higher than 480p?

you need the component gable to get the 480p, that's as good as it gets on the wii.

Read your post again....... the wii supports 480p through component cables...... that is the max.... so no there will be no hd on this edition console

Hmmm, so it's actually a hardware ouput limitation?

Just out of curiosity: Why wouldn't it work the same way as in a PC, where you'd either play in games in high quality/visual effects & low res - VS - low quality & high res?

Becasue the ATI chip in the wii only does 480p (plain and simple)

You GPU in the computer ARE WAY STRONGER!!!!
