black screen when trying to play new games

On several new games that I rented last week I kept getting a black screen when after the initial screen to start the game.

    The games in question are

    Harry Potter Lego

    Metroid M

Batman video game (released in 2010)

Games that do play without problems was the Harry Potter game based on the most recent movie.

Other games that don't give problems are any games I have on my hard drive.

I read on the back of the Wii boxes that unauthorized modification of the WII might make the games unplayable.

I got some advice from the guy who modded my Wii and he said to install one of the games and run it from the hard drive but that kept me with a black screen too.

What do I need to do to get these games to work. I really want to play Metroid M.

    Thanks

Well, I'm betting it wasn't a wiihacks tutorial for softmodding that was followed --- was it? Your post is so full of non-information that no one can give you a definitive diagnosis. The previous responder covers one option; the other is cIOS.

well thanks for the chastisement. Being new to this and not knowing how much detail I was supposed to put in the thread I apologize for not being detailed enough.

I know that my friend supposedly was using information directly from this site so I don't know what else you want from me?

And you chastise me for not giving enough information for a definitive answer yet you just say Cios and leave it at that. Kind of not practicing what you preach.

Let me ask this, how is someone supposed to come here and ask questions when they get an answer like the answer from a senior member of this site like I did.

But I digress, I am bowing to your knowledge and hope that you will give me more information as to what I need to do to start over and get the Wii to work with Metroid.

When I put the disk in the wii, the initial screen comes up, and then nearly immediately goes to a black screen. I get no screen asking me to update my wii firmware.

I don't get anything from the Wii except the black screen. I wait for 5 minutes or more and still black screen.

If I have to go back to square one and bring the wii back to it's former state and then go the route of doing it all over again to make it work with Metroid I just don't want to lose the ability to run the games off the hard drive I have connected to it.

If I need to give more info please let me know what I need to get for you to help me with this problem and I will try to get it.

    Oh, where to begin ----

    1. System Menu/region?

    2. Specific guide followed, if indeed wiihacks. It's kind of hard to take you seriously when you're so vague and not the one who actually did it.

    3. I presume you meant softmod?

    4. Have you bothered to read the guide for Metroid: Other M?

    5. Was only cIOS 249/250 installed? What about Hermes cIOS 222/223?

    6. By what method/loader are you attempting to load these?

    7. Did you follow Gen3SF's HD guide to make sure your HD is both compatible and configured separately?

    8. Do you have BootMii installed --- and as IOS or boot2?

    9. Why on earth would you mention updating your firmware --- you did install Priiloader to block disc and online updates --- right?

    10. You could begin with a SignCheck and post in a reply (use wordpad, not notepad) --- look here.

    11. Had you followed the rules of the site, you'd have posted in the Introductions section and have gotten excellent starter links and a personal greeting from a staff member, rather than getting off on the wrong foot. It's not too late, and I recommend it.

Mate i've got the same problem as you.

    I have software 3.3E

I am able to play all my old games, but when i put in a "newish" game the wii hangs at a black screen. This is because on my D2Pro modchip i enabled "Update Blocker". So when i have inserted a new game the update blocker kicks in and stops the game from running an update.

I called up the guy who installed my modchip, who said i need to turn off the update blocker and update my wii, which in turn will let me play my new game.

But i have one more problem i was hoping you guys could help me out with. I want to update my Wii to 4.3E but because i have previously mucked around with homebrew im scared that i might brick my wii. All i had done was install "Wad Installer" and "Wad Uninstaller". The only wads i installed were N64 and Super Nintendo Games. All of which i have now uninstalled. And i have also now uninstalled homebrew channel.

So yeah my question is will my Wii brick if i update via the game update?

    Thanks

    sam-sam:

There a reason you're 1. Hijacking someone else's thread; 2. Presumed softmod, yours most certainly is not. Re-ask in the hardmod section, please.

Ohh wow sorry, was only trying to help.

And from the sounds of it, the bloke asking the question is only new as well, 2 posts. And by "asking the guy that modded his wii" probably means he has a modchip installed?
So i thought I would help by saying he may have an update blocker enabled? Which is the problem im also currently facing.

So i'm sorry for trying to help, and btw am i not allowed to ask questions in other peoples threads?

No harm, no foul --- just be careful, as a casual read seemed to be someone else trying to jack the thread. On your "someone else did his Wii" thing: some users have others do softmodding to their Wii rather than hardmodding (or both). I did my inept 16 yo cousin's on my G/F's side (softmod). I'm not really sure, the OP of this thread was vague enough I sought all kinds of clarification/information.
