Not yet, chances are you updated to the new v3.3 rev 2 and cannot use various homebrew features for the time being.

Verbatim, Sony, TDK, Philips DVD-R have shown most success when burnt using imgburn at 4x speed

Verbatim 16x Dvd-R don't use +R, they kill your laser faster

Umm... that's nonsense, the difference between DVD+R and DVD-R won't kill your laser itself faster. DVD+R and DVD-R use the low-level type of media, just use a slightly mechanisms for some low-level operations which should not affect it in general (but you still need a burner which burns DVD+R, since the media is identified as DVD+R). And if you booktype the DVD+R to DVD-ROM, it tends to be MORE compatible than a DVD-R.

The thing that will burn out your DVD drive faster is if the quality of the burn is bad and it forces the drive to up the gain or if you use cheap, crap media.

Always using Verbatim for consoles is generally a good thing. Always burning DVDs at 16x is a *bad* thing unless the 4x or 8x profile for your burner for that media sucks. Generally a slower burn tends to be more accurate unless the burner can't properly control how the disk is being burned.

Some burners like DVD+R better than DVD-R. I know that LiteOn and Sony drives tend to have a preference for DVD+R and Pioneer drives tend to have a preference for DVD-R. But in general you tend to get less cheap, low quality crap DVD+R media compared to DVD-R media.

The best way to be sure is to do a quality test on the disk afterwards (Nero has a CD-DVD Test tool that supports a number of DVD burners, some other burners like older LiteOns have some other tools which are a bit more accurate). That is the determining factor.

Anyway, bad burns have been known to kill units. The last generation of PS2 phats had a gain control which would cause the drive to eventually self destruct if you tried to read bad disks since it would keep cranking up the power higher and higher...

No sir the +r and -r is not nonsense. Someone I know have tested it, and +r's do deteriate the laser faster. I'm just telling you what I know, tell me I'm lieing if you want , but I tell you what I know.
