    Spoiler

solved it myself, i had to remove ios 58 and reinstall it and it works flawlessly. guess it was a bad download the first time. so thank you roadofexcess for all your brilliance and insite!

On mac go to system preference, sharing, check file sharing, then click + in shared Folders add folder were movies are, then click options, then I checked share files and folders using SMB, also checked on for my account, then clicked done. Now to check you ip go to apple icon in corner and click about this Mac, click more info, then click network, and your ip should you should be able to see your ipV4 address write this done..now your done on Mac. Now on wiiMC go to settings go to settings, network, add SMB share, put display name any will do, then add your ip, and then share name is name of folder where all your movies are stored, this is case sensitive.then your administrative username and password, usually prompted when you make changes on your mac. And that should be able...thanks again!
These instructions worked perfectly for me. Using my MacBook Pro running 10.6.7 I have been able to set up SMB file sharing between the Mac and the Wii. I'm using a 1TB NTFS Lacie external HDD which always fails to mount directly in the Wii's USB ports, so I just shared it across the network via the Mac instead. So far I haven't experienced any performance issues such as latency - far from it, the external drive LED barely registers any activity, even with large (over 2GB) video files.

I'm quite happy with WiiMC, it fills my TV screen far better than my PC ever did via S-Video and unlike MPlayer there's no audio sync issues whilst watching DVD's. Though I wish it did have the volume normalization feature of MPlayer because the output from DVD's is quite low. Also I can't get DVD subtitles to work, even after selecting them from the menu. Does anyone know of a fix for this?

You can do it through MMM, or tha HBC itself, and yes, when you re-install the HBC it will run off ios58.
As for your final question, I have always set up wifi on any wii I have modded, so I'm unsure about an offline method!
Do you have a wifi connection?

ok, i did the softmod last night and i ran WiiMC and it said there is an update available. i clicked no but i assume its safe to run this update.

also, in regards to installing the channel forwarder, how exactly do i do it. is there a guide or anything.

the first post here just says download this and install it.

im still trying to get my head around installing IOS's and cIOS's etc.

edit: i think i worked it out. i just d/l the installer and it should show up in the HBC right?
