    1. First I created a folder on the root of my SD card called "media". In that folder I created subfolders called pictures, video, music. Do this first, make sure to put something in the folder you will be using, and add the media folder to the root of your SD card.
    2. Next I went into settings, and there you can select one of those forms of media. I will use video as an example.
    3. In settings select video, then select video folder. Now type sd1:/media/video, select ok.
    4. Now select the video icon at the top left of the screen and you should see what you put in the video folder on the SD card.
    5. Do this with the other folders too, music, pictures.

I haven't done this with USB yet, but will come in handy for those with a big HDD and lots of media stored on it.

my ? is this as no 3. says if i want to do this for usb do i just type in usb:/media/video and so on etc for music

This does work all i can say is what a great program .

Just put the folders on the root of your HDD. It seems that the new version WiiMC 1.0.6 will find your media files on its own.

edit - my mistake, when you select your usb device, you are able to browse to the folder where your media files are. Make sure to select the correct icon, in the upper left of the screen, to be able to display the type of media file you are looking for.

I feel like there's something simple I'm missing but I've looked forever so here goes:

Whenever I browse my files and find the movie I want, I click it and it says "now playing" with the name of the movie underneath. I hear the sound of the movie clear as day and it has controls to fast forward, rewind, etc... but the picture just remains at the regular screen where you browse for files.

I have made sure I clicked "videos" in the top left. I'm trying this with WiiMC v 1.06 with IOS 202 v 5.1 installed with base 57. I'm trying to load it through my WD 1.5 TB hard drive (which I know is compatible) in NTFS format. I even made sure I had DVDX installed on the Wii.

On my computer it says the type of file is AVCHD Video (.m2ts) which plays no problem on Windows Media Player. For what it's worth, it will play in Media Player CE (.77) but no matter what I play through that app, half the screen is fuzzy. I'd rather fix MC than CE but any help with either is appreciated. I just feel like there's some simple thing I'm missing with WiiMC.

Would also like to add it does this with every movie I have, sound works fine, picture doesn't switch to the movie.

How about other types of video files, are you able to see video with them. I have found some video formats that will play with MplayerCE, but not with WiiMC.

Would also like to add it does this with every movie I have, sound works fine, picture doesn't switch to the movie.

What video format is "every movie I have", have you tried avi, divx, or xvid movie formats, I can play them with no problem.

The .m2ts is a filename extension used for the BDAV MPEG-2 Transport Stream container file format. It is used for multiplexing audio, video and other streams. It is based on the MPEG-2 transport stream container.[2][3][4][5] This container format is commonly used for high definition video on Blu-ray Disc and AVCHD.[6]

    source
The Wii is capable of MPEG-2, i think that alot of video formats are based from MPEG-2, but HD video maybe too much for the Wii to handle.

Some M2TS files can be played with ALLPlayer, MPlayer, Windows Media Player, VLC and other media players, depending on used compression formats in a M2TS file. Some players will need an appropriate codec, component or plugin installed.[citation needed] The file type .m2ts is not always automatically associated with the player, so it may be necessary to open it from the player.

Current versions of Nero Vision, AVS Video Converter, FormatFactory, Total video converter, MediaCoder, HandBrake and Picture Motion Browser are capable of converting M2TS files into MPEG-4 files, which can also be viewed using the aforementioned media players.

I knew it would be something simple. You're correct, it just can't handle the 720 and 1080p (regardless of format- tried .avi and xvid). I had some standard def movies in a separate folder and, sure thing, played fine on both players. I am currently converting one to MEPG-4 using Handbrake to see if that works, but it will take hours.

    Thanks for all your help.

The best idea for you is to play your Wii and have an iPod playing music into your ears. Solved.
they can, didn't excitruck have this feature?? it just played mp3s off the SD card.

i installed the channel, but when i launch it, it says "error Could not find a valid SD or USB device - one is required for normal operation" Clicking OK brings me back to the Wii menu.

i have an SD card exclusively for my wii, so what makes my 2gb sd invalid?

Wiimc works perfectly fine from HBC, but I'd rather have a channel. I am sharing media from my pc, no need for sd, or dvd or anything like that. i got it working via HBC

i heard black Wii's cannot play DVDs whatsoever, they only read gcn and wii discs. so if your wii is black, then no, otherwise, it should. but not off the bat, a cios i believe is needed to enable dvd playback.
