As you have no WAD manager now I don't believe you can just update the shop channel, as there IS a way to do that. I guess you could update to 4.2. If you have no Homebrew you shouldn't brick UNLESS you have a power outage at the wrong time. Don't turn off you Wii at all while it is updating.
So updating from disc is ok as long as disc is from same region as my Wii (which won't get semi/full bricked)?

Just updated mine to 4.2E without any problems. I went from 3.3E with homebrew to 4.0E then to 4.1E. After that I could easely use the "virgin" guide to remove homebrew. And yesterday I used the official way to update to 4.2 and it worked great. So many thanks to everyone for the help!!!!
