Question Drivekey Modchip + HomeBrew without Zelda? Thanks! (:

Hi all, new to hacking wiis and such. My Drivekey mod chip just arrived a few days ago, I haven't yet gotten around to installing it. I was planning on just burning torrented games onto DVD's, but I found that my dvd burner's broken D:

Is there any way to install HomeBrew with a chip?

I googled extensively and most of the results were out-of-date, unhelpful, etc. One answer I did find was on these forums, but I was still pretty confused as it was a bit vague and out-of-date. Do I have to download some iso or something? I bought a chip specifically so I wouldn't have to softmod my wii and risk it getting bricked, so I don't want or need to use the twilight hack; I just want to install Homebrew so I can play games from an external hard drive (I ordered a new dvd burner anyways, but if I can install Homebrew and load games from an external hard drive then obviously I'd prefer that).

    Thanks verrrry much!

A modchip doesn't really interfere with the softmod process, you softmod the wii like any other one. The Twilight Princess Hack is outdated, there is now bannerbomb. Just follow this tutorial:

Thanks, but is it possible for me to totally avoid softmodding my wii entirely?

Yes. For example, if you don't want to go to 4.1, you can skip Step 4. And also Step 5 since you would need 4.1 to install priiloader. Although Priiloader is a good anti-brick program. The fundamental things needed to load backups would be a cIOS and a backup loader but to install both you need a vulnerable IOS, hence why Steps 1 - 3 are necessary.

Sorry, I'm not very techie- the extent of my skills would be installing RAM on my computer, lol, so I apologize for how slow I must seem.

I'm still confused, to be honest: I went to that guide you linked to in your first post, but it seems to go straight from softmodding to using Homebrew, without having installing Homebrew as a separate step with separate instructions? I read this :

"Install Bootmii as boot2 if you can, if not then install it as an IOS then go back and install the Homebrew Channel."

How do I only install the Homebrew Channel?

Again, so sorry if I sound like an idiot!

The hackmii installer allows you to install both bootmii and homebrew channel. There should be a button saying Install Homebrew Channel. The tutorial includes videos, watch them and they should help.
