Its your choice to put bootmii on your console it has saved many people from bricks. It can be installed as an IOS or boot2, you will know if your console is capable during the installation when you launch the HackMii Installer, it should say BootMii - Can only be installed as an IOS or boot2 or something like that. When you install it you can make a NAND backup which is a complete backup of your wii and if anything goes wrong you could just restore with bootmii.

    Cheers,

I said screw it and went ahead and tried to install - I'm not able to install as a boot2 - Dang!

Now I'm looking into preloader - I have 3.3U system rev and from what I've read so far it needs to be either 3.2 or 4.0??

Now I want to have the ability to restore system if I was to brick

Do I need to upgrade to 4.0? I found the files to do so - should everything still work that works now?

Too much info out there so would like a more clear cut answer

another question - do I install preloader first then bootmii as ios or the other way around?

    Cheers,

    Scotty Mac

If you want to safely upgrade to 4.0 just use Waninkoko's Firmware Updater 4.0 so you can keep your homebrew.

And i dont think it matters if you install preloader or bootmii first but wait for someone elses opinion and i think with it as an ios, you can access it from homebrew channel and make a nand backup so your basically safe from semi-bricks with preloader and bootmii IOS since you can access preloader and go the homebrew channel.

I can testify that Waninkoko updater worked a charm on my 3.4 to 4.0 journey, all my homebrew worked nicely afterwards and I can now have a load of Wiiware loaded on my SD card, which is nice.

Bootmii as IOS is not as useful as boot2 but still worth having that NAND backup.

It is safe to install bootmii as IOS right away while at 3.3 and do your NAND backup.

Then update to 4.0 using Waninkoko updater tutorial http://www.wiihacks.com/recommended-...l-working.html

Install preloader once you get to 4.0. Make another NAND backup once you've done that and keep them both on your PC in case you need them.

Or if you feel daring you can go straight to 4.0, and miss the NAND at 3.3 as there's no point in being on 3.3.
Not really doing much Wii stuff these days.

Ok so I've updated to 4.0U and everything seems ok other then a few lock ups??

It locked up trying to get into System settings and channels - reset sytem then went in ok - pretty scared about this??

For bootmii wanted to prepare SD card?

Am I going to have to have an sd card in the wii at all times to run this app

I currently have two cards I'm switching back and forth

One for apps and the other for DLC

What files are going to be setup on the SD for bootmii and Am i going to have to keep them there after install??

    Cheers,

I copied my wiiware to the sd - pretty cool - don't like that it doesn't automatically delete the files when i'm done playing - had to go in and manually delete - is there a way around this as well

Everything else on the system seems to be running fine - loaded game off HDD
Loaded wiiware off SD card - haven't tried backup channel yet

Just when I go into the wii options it freezes in different spots - Channels - SD option in data management and now when I try to go back to the wii menu

DAMM this sucks - I like all the open memory on my wii

Really would like to know if I can fix this issue?

    Cheers,

    Scotty Mac
