Quick question, I'm looking to go the usb route and was wondering if the games play faster on the hdd's as far as movie sequences in the games go? I know with wiigator some stutter a little.

Thus far with my limited experience, I have to say that I believe the games load faster from USB Hard Drive than from DVD Drive using WiiGator. I have both and use the hard drive on my primary Wii and it is fast. I've noticed no choppiness or other lag with it. Of course, now that I've said that everything will probably slow down.

    best hdd-- or compatible?

i dont know which is best, i would love to have as much space as possible, but i use a simpletech 120 GIG pinafarinia or some thing like that. it works great, never once has had any un recognized issue. hours and hours of play , powered with the wii, and small enough to velcro to the side. currently have 41 games on it. plenty for now. but 750 GIG's would be really nice.

Just got a 320Gb WD passport essential last week and it has worked great so far with the Wii. Small and bus powered so easy to disconnect and take to the computer to load more games and for taking it to a friends house. Also nice that it turns off and on through the wii. All games i've tried so far have run flawlessly.

Im using a Fantom 750gb hard drive I picked up off of NewEgg for $70 delivered. This is great and the annoying blue led even matches the annoying one on the Wii.

I just use a Rosewill 2.5" USB enclosure with my old 120GB laptop hard drive in it. Wii has enough juice coming off the USB port to not use the pwoer booster additional cable on the USB cable. Works like a charm and loads a heck of a lot faster than the discs!

Tarek, I believe in a little different philosophy. Like closet space you can't have too much hard drive. I have a 1TB WD and it's filling up fast.
