i have a seagate 250gb usb powered hdd and during a few games ive played for extended amount of time like over an hour and half ive had freezeing issues where when scene changes are occuring the game would freeze the screen, i could still move the remote around but no buttons would work and the game would just hang there and id have to manually power down with power button

so I was just curious has anybody experienced these issues with either usb powered drives or with externally powered drives...(not interested in thumb drives)

trying to figure out if this is just possible my drive is not working properly or if other poeple are having similar problems
No difference here, I have tried both a TB on external and a 160 Seagate dual usb(one power + data) nothing noticeable. Sounds like a bad backup. I ripped SSBB from my disc and it would freeze after an entire battle I got a fresh rip and no problems at all since. Your drive's power source doesnt matter, just use a well taken care of disc or option B...

The Wiis have overheating problems (one wire mod is available online) ...When they overheat the graphics chip developes glitches (?BGA problems?) ...Your Wii will run hotter if current is drawn from the USB port - especially in the quantities required to spin a couple of glass plates ...I would advise using an external PSU for any high-current USB devices ...A powered hub might be another option - that way an unpowered drive can get its power from the hub instead of the Wii.
