What kind of file type are you trying to play. And what is the name of the media player exactly? I just know WiiMC seems to work for fine. It may not play every video file though depending on the codec. The usual non HD tv shows and movies I download play fine for me.

As stated by eureca, not all video files will play on the Wii. Depending on if you're using WiiMC or MPlayerCE you will have better results with one of the other. Things to consider when wondering what the Wii can play in terms of video files:

    1) Files with an aspect ratio of 640x480 or less generally will play the best. The Wii is only capable of displaying 480p at the highest so anything above that may have issues, though sometimes you can get lucky and have no issues. Young Justice with a resolution of 1280x720 plays perfectly on my Wii via WiiMC, but the Wii downscales it to 480p.

    2) Frame Dropping; some things will work better with it on, some with it off. This is why it is recommended you leave it on "auto". If you're noticing sync issues between video and audio try changing this setting. If that doesn't help than the video might need to be re-encoded with different, more Wii friendly, settings.

    3) USB 2.0; Make sure you have IOS 58 v6176 installed. This is the IOS that enables USB 2.0 support and after installing this myself (long ago) I experienced a significant difference in WiiMC's playback functions. Also make sure your USB device is USB 2.0 compatible (older USB devices might not be) and that it is not fragmented.

    4) File type; In my experience I've had the best luck with AVI and MKV files. Though the Wii can play other file types as well these seem to work best.

Are you softmodded? If so, did you follow the wiihacks "Softmod ANY Wii" guide (you can find a link to it above in SNES_Master's sig)? If so, you've got it; if not, you should
