Recommend me a 200-500GB External HDD for Wii/GC Backups using CFG USB Loader

I softmodded my Wii last month using a 16GB Flashdrive and it works quite well.

I use 'CFG USB Loader' to play Wii + GameCube games. (I still need to buy a GameCube controller)

I'm aware of this compatibility list

    Removed External Link

But it appears to be very outdated and a majority of the drives have been discontinued.

I'm aware practically every drive has a newer version but since the main issue with these drives are firmware settings I can't blindly buy one as a manufactured might have suddenly decided to force spin down in a newer model without the option to disable it.

My budget is as high as $60. I have no use for anything above 500gb and to be frank I probably don't need anything more than 250-300 (if I even need that much).

I have front USB 3.0 ports so cable length isn't an issue.

I'd prefer to buy from the Newegg or Amazon (United States delivery).

Your post was auto-moderated due to the external link that I removed before accepting your post.

We have our own USB compatbility thread, also containing old hard drives that may be hard to find since the list was started a while ago, but new hard drives are still added when people give us information.

Finding a hard drive for under $60 may be difficult, as the hard drives of that low capacity have not been made in years. Use the post and search around to see if you can find anything.

It's more than what you want to spend, but I bought this to replace my 250gig hard drive that filled up with a 1.5TB drive and works well with the Wii Amazon.com: Seagate FreeAgent GoFlex Desk 1.5 TB USB 2.0 External Hard Drive STAC1500100: Electronics

If you have to find a newer model, check the manufacturer's web site for configuration utilities so you can disable any sleep mode that may be enabled by default. In the hard drive that I bought for my Wii, sleep mode was disabled by default.

    Thanks for the info.

This drive looks like it should work

WD My Passport 500GB USB 3.0/USB 2.0 Black Portable Hard Drive WDBKXH5000ABK-NESN

$100 normal price, on sale for $70.

I'll only be using this drive for Wii/GC games, I really don't need that much space.

This newer model has been confirmed to work on both lists and is under $70.
