Hi, been awhile since I was on because everything has been solid, however I goofed today; I installed the latest homebrewupdate through the Hackmii installer, however I forgot to do the next step of reinstalling the bootmii as the Ios and just went to exit to main. So now I can get the main channel menu but when i go into any channel it goes to black screen and thats it..
how do I solve this? my 5 year old is chewing on my arm to get back into mario kart.

If everything was working fine then updating hbc would not change that. Forgetting to update bootmii should not either. You can just run the hackmii installer again to update bootmii.
ok there in lies the next issue it's been 2 years since I did the hack, frankly I've forgotten how to do it, I remember there was a GREAT walk through on how to do the yo Gi oh hack that I ended up doing. It' was simple and easy to understand. Do i need that or is there a walk through you can point me to so I don't end up bricking the thing. (
Having been that long since you nodded you could just follow the softmod any Wii guide linked in my signature. That will get everything up to date for you.

most specifically if your HBC was an old one you are most likely missing or have an out of date IOS 61
