If you have the Homebrew Channel set up with lots of games and channels for your daughter, you do not have to lose it all. When following this tutorial, just skip the HBC installation step.
Another suggestion for a smooth softmod-use a SanDisk 2GB SD card for the softmod. There are several apps that are very fussy about the SD card type. Also, if possible, use a Western Digital externally powered USB HDD.
Good luck to you.

The Following User Says Thank You to gen3sf For This Useful Post:
i was having trouble loading from my ext. HDD after i installed cIOS Corp 3.3. Files were loading on Geexbox from the ext HDD which means it was recognized by the wii. So i did a NAND restore and got my system down from 4.1U to 3.2U. Im using a Seagate FreeAgent/Xtreme 1TB ext HDD which according to the compatibility list was ok. I have both Bootmii and Preloader installed. I really need help with what to do next. I've read so many tutorials and am confused as what to do in order to run USB Loader. HELP!!

I guess you are indeed a bit confused. One primary reason the risk the very invasive cIOSCORP3.3 installation is to play games from the disc channel. It seems as though you would rather play your game backups from an external HDD.
I. First and VERY IMPORTANT-NEVER NEVER DELETE any of your cIOSCORP installations-cIOSCORP overwrites a lot of the core Wii IOSes.
II. I took a look at what cIOSCORP has installed and it looks like you should be fine to play off your external HDD without any additional cIOS installs
III. Your HDD will probably come already formatted for "plug and play" compatibility with a PC. Instructions for WinXP:
1. Plug your new USB HDD into PC
2. Right click on My Computer
3. Go to Manage
4.Click on Disk Management
5.With your disk drive loaded and visible: right click on new HDD and choose delete volume
6. Right click on new HDD in lower part or graphical portion of window and click New
7. A drive letter should be assigned to your new drive-choose NOT TO FORMAT when you create your new partition [note that you can choose size of partition-you can leave some for FAT32 or NTFS in a later step]
8.Run WBFS Manager 3
9. Select your new drive letter and click Format.
[You can either use WBFS Manager or go back to your PC to format the non-WBFS partition if you chose to create one-your choice on format. However, just remember than FAT32 cannot handle files >4GB, NTFS is required for that and ISOs and movies are often larger than 4GB]
Both USB Loader GX and NeoGamma can load games from an external HDD
