Hmm, when I load the USB Loader I get the -1 error message. I had attributed this to the FAT32 formatted drive. Thought I installed the cIOS36 correctly.
Anyway, this weekend I'll use the WBFS.exe on the drive and do the 4.0 upgrade. And if anything I have another drive or two to experiment with if it turns out the one I'm trying just doesn't work. Thanks for the input.

When you get -1 it means it can't recognize that drive. For me I just put it in then my Wii formatted it and everything for me.

    Huh?
I get what you mean, but that second sentence seems slightly rushed

I put my flashdrive in my Wii and it auto-formatted to the right format. If it registers it then it should format it for you to use. What are you using exactly?

Auto-formatted? USB Loader did? I'm using a USB hard drive (60gb Maxtor I think). I have a flashdrive to try and other HDD's too, so I have options. Will let you know how it goes. But the -1 error is fine with me cause I know what the issue is, rather than the -6 issue which is the IOS error right? I get tired of messing with installing those things, but its a necessary evil I guess (call me lazy).

I have a Seagate 500GB drive with power supply connected to the wii and sometimes when I start the USB Loader I get the -1 error message, so I exit the USB Loader. I unplug the power supply for the harddrive and the plug it back and start the USB Loader again and the wii reads the harddrive. Anybody else having this issue?

Seems like the -1 error can be finicky. But I have now resolved my -1 issue because I was using some janky ass EZ-IDE USB connector. I tried my flash drive and that formatted no problem, as well as my Time Machine USB Drive and that worked fine (though I didn't format cause its my backup drive!). So looks like I'll be needing a new USB enclosure.

spin up the external hdd with it's power supply on, b4 activiating USB_loader program will eliminate the -1 error possibility.
