replacement ipod screens are relatively cheap
you can also format an ipod and remove all the data on its main partition as itunes will still be able to identify it as an ipod and restore its partitions and system files
I already got a new iPod for free (they refunded me, and because the store wasn't in Canada anymore, they let me keep the old one) so I'm not looking to buy a new screen.

If I did do a full format though, when I start up the iPod, would it give me the little error sign (well theoretically since I can't see it since the screen is broken)? If if gives that little error, then I can't force the iPod into Disk Mode meaning I can't run games off of it (I've read that it needs to be in Disk Mode to get games to work and even if it wasn't required, I would still prefer it be).

if i already got it formatted to wbfs through the wii and its all working on that end then what would be causing it to error through the pc?

    wbfs windows port build 'delta'

He was definitely talking to you. Sorry if I caused any confusion, it was not at all intended.

ok just to update everyone on my issues with my two seagate external hdd i have finally figured out why i was getting the " could not open drive: no error" and i feel like an idiot for not thinking bout it the reason was that everytime i ran either a gui or wbfs manager i just double clicked and ran the program but it was not givin my the proper acces to do whatever i wanted in the program....so i finally found in some spanish post to right click and run as administrator and bam both the gui and the wfbs manager i tried worked with no problems....

I'll remember that for when I get to that stage.

As for me right now, I have just a few more questions before I go through with the process (yes I am paranoid, don't blame me, if I bricked my brother's Wii, I'd never see the end of it.)

1st: What exactly does the "IOS36-64-v1042.wad" do and why is it required?

2nd: What could possibly go wrong when installing the wad file and what can I do the prevent that from happening, and what are some of the consequences of something going wrong during the install and how do I even install that .wad file?

3rd: What exactly does the "IOSCustomInstallerRev9" do and why is it required?

4th: What could possibly go wrong when installing the dol file and what can I do the prevent that from happening, and what are some of the consequences of something going wrong during the install?

Thanks so much guys, you are really helping me with every little detail I need to know.

The IOS adds the new features of the system menu 4.0, it is required to run necessary procedure for running from USB it also apparently adds USB 2.0 (its just faster than USB 1.0)

Nothing can really go wrong installing the wad unless you unplug the wii ...

If you are paranoid about installing a WAD use the normal version that runs via the HBC (Home brew Channel)

It installs the new CIOS pretty straight forward.. you run it via the HBC

Ok thanks. You've really re-assured me that this process is a LOT safer and easier than i thought. I have 2 more questions.

    1. All this will work on the official 3.4U?
    2. How exactly do you install the IOS36-64-v1042.wad? If I put it in the root of the SD card, will it show up in HBC and I just click load and follow the instructions on screen?

Yes it will work on 3.4U if you downgrade (check the guides section)

That wad should be installed with wad installer i believe..

WADs do not show in HBC only the installers will show them

Ugh, downgrade. I hate that word.

Is there any way to get around needing to downgrade?
