If you have the HBC installed already, mauifrog's thread directs you on this. Why don't you read it? Also, I really don't understand you gave your serial # in your OTHER thread, yet still ask. See my reply there.

I am reading it thanks..look at the time stamp on comments. I started the other thread in a place where I thought it would be better suited, BEFORE I had a comment on this post. Other whys I wouldnt have posted it again and stuff.. Anyways thanks for your info on the matter..umm is their a way tell when the wii was created? I just bought this one, used..so idk if I just need the softmod or need a WODE without installing the softmod and going through all the steps..I dont want to do that just to find out I need a WODE to play my old backups. Thanks again for your help Im starting to figure it out with all your input

The serial number database presents you an educated guess. Based on that, it's likely your Wii is newer and won't play backups. There's really only two ways to find out: buy a triwing and open it up (Shadow_Sonic2's got a guide for that on this site), or perform the softmod and see if a backup runs off your backup loader.

alright. your a life..game saver! one more quick question and I will be happy as can be! I read two conflicting posts on the site. one saying soft mods cant be used with hard. and one saying they can. Im assuming they can and my ? is, can you have the HBC with the hard mod? if so..Is their any benefit other than just having the HBC to download content? Like do you need the softmod to run emulators or can WODE do this. Im trying to find it on the forum but asking a professional such as yourself seems to be alot quicker! Thanks for the help you have provided and any help you can provide. Thats all the questions I have for now..Enjoy your week !

Your Wii can be both hard and soft-modded, a lot of users in the past have done this. Myself, I opted for softmod because: 1. It's free; 2. So long as it's done correctly, it'll prevent you from accidentally updating in the future. A hardmod on System Menu 4.2 or 4.3 will kill out of region game playing. Mauifrog does have a guide that effectively kind of/sort of softmods your Wii to a point so that it can be rolled back to 4.1 (relating to those hard mod users).

Most emulators are available relating to softmodded Wiis. Game Cube stuff (backups) cannot be ran on D3-2 or D4 drives, regardless if hard or soft modded.

Excellent composition on that guide, Blu... as I'm strictly visitor/occasional poster, I had missed it.
