u may hv to re-sync the wiimote to the console. refer to Wii manual, or simply, open the front door of console, check the red button (A) inside; open the wiimote battery compartment, check the red button (B) ?
with batteries installed, press A then press B within 2 seconds, allow the two toys to sync and u're done.
when u change new batteries, the wiimote LEDs flashes. that means it's healthy. don't blame ur son !

When you re sync the remote if only three lights are flashing now i would say that the actual LED emitter has broken. You are not going to replace that yourself without advance soldering skills. sorry.
If i helped you please click thanks.

I'd not mention it had been stepped on or anything but most likely. It won't hurt to call, email, write.

How can you not understand my response? Your son stepped on it. You asked if you should contact the manufacturer. What part doesn't compute for you?
