Thumbs up Wiikey 2 with Wii clip on a KOREAN WII - SUCCESS

Greetings all, I just wanted to report a success story. Here are the details:

- Korean Wii Firmware 3.3k, bought 11/08 off the shelf
- D2E Chipset WITH EPOXY (yes, they're in Korea too now)
- Wiikey 2 with Wii clip

Here's what I did:

I opened the wii and found epoxy. I don't have a heat gun and couldn't find any Nitromors paint remover in Korea so I went to a local hardware store and showed them pictures of the epoxy-covered chip and a pic of Nitromors. They gave me some strong but regular clear mineral spirit-type stuff. It didn't work in the half hour that others are reporting about the Nitromors. Instead I slaved for 6 hours painstakingly using q-tips to "sand down" to the chip itself. then I used an exacto knife to clean away the metal area on the outside of the chip. I cut in an upward motion between the metal things (sorry I don't know the word) and cleared out 99% of the epoxy around the chip. I installed wiikey 2 with clip and it worked no problem. After setting the region free up by first loading an original Korean game, I loaded a backup of Mario Kart NTSC-U and installed the complete update. Then I loaded a backup of Twilight Princess NTSC-J and installed HBC through the Twilight hack. Now I can use Gecko OS to run any game I've come across whether PAL or NTSC-J/U. I don't have much experience with loading WADs yet, but I don't think it'll be a problem with all the great work everybody is doing here. I just wanted to add some more info for those Korean Wii users out there. If anyone has any questions or additional info please post.

For more detailed info about the HBC installing process, see the following link.

Props to Guzzard for having the balls to take a chance on an outside region update, and Link for extra support.

Peace,

Hi

I have a Korean Wii, Firmware 3.3k, manufacture date 06/08, with D2C Chipset Without Epoxy, and a Wiikey 2 on a clip installed.

I have been struggling with trying to run a backup of Mario Kart NTSC-U, but experiencing a lot of trouble. The game appear on the Wii Menu, but once I attempt to load it, I get a black screen.

Tried burning Mario Kart on different media (Sony and Maxwell), at different speed (2X, 2.4X, 4X) with different DVD burners (several LG models). Nothing seems to work.

Do I need a DL version of Mario Kart to update?

Can I use Mario Galaxy (Korean version) to update the IOS21, before using the Twilight Hack to load HBC?

FYI: Twilight hack works fine, but near the end of the process, I get the following message:

Checking system...

I'm running under IOS21 2.7
Error checking the System Menu version!
Press ACCEPT or CANCEL to exit to the Wii System Menu

I am guessing that the error is because I was unable to update using the Mario Kart (U).

Any instruction about overcoming these problems would be greatly appreciated.

Peace

Did you use an original version of the NTSC-J Zelda or was it from an ISO backup?

I am having problems getting a verison of Zelda to even start on my Korean 3.3K with D2E Modchip. Apart from Mario Kart and Zelda every other game that I've tried works ok.

Did you get this backup as a download? I have been searching for an untouched NTSC-J copy of Zelda but I can't find one yet.

If you know where can you point me in the right direction?

PS..did you get Mario Kart to run using Gecko?

Try the following backup: The Legond of Zelda Twilight Princess(JPN)

No success with Mario Kart so far, and I have tried a lot of different combinations too.

I couldn't get past the Twlightlight hack, which loads the Homebrew, which is is needed to load Gecko (I think).

What games have you tried that works?

Hi Engteach...

Do you have a link for that ISO?

I have a few original games in Korean and a few working backups as follows:

Original Korean:

Sonic & Mario at The Olympics
Wii Play
Super Mario Wii (Korean version of Galaxy)
Wii Fit
Wii Sports

Working Download ISO's:

Tiger Woods 2008 - NTSC-U
Sonic & Mario at The Olympics - PAL
Wii Fit - NTSC-U
Wii Ski - NTSC-U
Super Mario Galaxy - NTSC-U
Mario Party 8 - NTSC-U

Non-Working Download ISO's:

1. Mario Kart - all versions I can find

Boots as far as controller advice screen in English, after pressing "A" goes to black screen and need to reset Wii.

2. Legend Of Zelda - Twilight Princess - NTSC-U

Boots up to screen with Zelda logo and the Wii Menu and Start buttons. Pressing Start goes to black screen and need to reset Wii.

note that I have the D2ProE modchip installed
