As wii comes to it's end... when's the best time to hack?

    Hi there.

Utter newbie here, but thinking of hacking my wii to open it up, now that it seems there are no more big games coming.

From what I've read, it seems that hacking a 4.3 system is a bit more of a trouble/risk than is usual, and I was wondering if this is likely to improve in the future, as hacking tools are improved, or if I should get on with it now (I am a novice... so the simpler the better for me).

I also thought that nintendo is unlikely to bring out many more system updates, so maybe I should wait until they've definitely finished, and see if it causes any problems for hacked wiis prior to hacking mine? Or maybe things will only be made worse, as security is improved?

I realise that no-one can see in to the future, but thought it might be worth asking for advice from those with more knowledge of the scene. Thanks.

Thanks. I had read through that guide... it sounded a little easy... *gulp*

It could be that it's easier to do than to read about. I'll give it another read through and make my own notes. I also need to find an old sd card from somewhere.

Now is the best time. As far as reading the guide, I read thru it about 6 times before I felt comfortable finally attempting the mod. So be sure to read it a lot

Yeah - that sounds like the sort of 'easy' it is. I'm part of the generation that expects everything to happen magically when we click a button. Reading and learning should definitely be classed as 'tricky'.

I might get things together, and then wait til I have a spare week-end to devote to it. Thanks all.

Hi there. I'm very slowly going through the 'hack any wii' guide, but I'm afraid I have some questions, which I thought I'd put in this thread, rather than start another.

I know that these thing will have been covered before, but it's hard to know what keywords to search with, so hope people don't mind being asked again.

If you have any issue, try to format with this format tool
    2. Format your SD card. Fat32
Panasonic SDFormat preferred. Dont skip this step.
I used the tool suggested to format my SD card, and it said it was formatted as 'FAT' - is this okay? Do I need to do something else to format as FAT32? There do not seem to be any options to do so in the tool recommended.

Go to the Letterbomb site HERE.
Found another post confirming this doesn't matter. Ta.At letterbomb, there was a 'cut the red wire' and 'cut the blue wire' option. I assume that it does not matter which you go for, but just wanted to check.

Copy downloaded files to root directory of SD card. I used windows xp.
Does this mean all files? eg: credits, read me, etc, or just the 'private' folder?

Install Bootmii as Boot2(boot2 may not be available, IOS installs automatically)
okay - I can't use boot 2. Found another post. I'm a 4.3 system, so does that mean I should not use Boot2? (Maybe I don't need to know this and IOS would install automatically?)

In part 2 of chapter 1, it says:

    Prepare the SD-card
What does this mean? What do I need to do then?

That's it for chapter 1. It could be that these matters would have become clear as I started doing things, but did not want to be in the middle of things when I realised that I had no idea what I was doing. If that's the case, I'll push on with chapter 2 and hope it becomes clear as I do it. Thanks.

It's been over 24 hours... so I can bump. I've been reading a few random threads, but still haven't found all the answers, so any help would be appreciated. Ta.

I got answers to a couple of your questions:

Just format the SD card through windows (right click it in my computer and format as FAT32).

I'm pretty sure the "private" folder is all you need to copy.

Dont worry too much, I did it straight away and worked ok. But I still admire how you are seeking out answers before rushing

    Good luck
