I have a couple questions about USB loaders and USB HDD

    1. How often would you guys say your USB loader fails to work? Like when I select configurable USB loader from the homebrew channel, it seems like it fails to start up like 10 percent of the time and I have to unplug my Wii's power in order to start it up again. Is this normal? It seems to do it when I'm using either Configurable USB Loader, or USB Loader GX.

    2. Do you guys keep your USB HDD plugged into your Wii when you're not using your Wii?

I would say about 5% of the time my loader (cfg65) fails to see my HDD. I've had the problem for a while, I think it's my HDD. I just have to un-plug, and re-plug the HDD, and everything is fine.

I always leave my HDD plugged to the Wii, unless I am adding games, or installing cIOS stuff. My HDD is a portable unit, powered with the usb connection, so it shuts off when the wii is turned off.

    Hope this helps...

I leave mine plugged in all the time unless I need to move a lot of data either to or from the drive with a computer, which is rarely. I would say mine fails to load less then 1% of the time. My drive is self powered but also turns on and off with the Wii. I have run into drives that don't spin up unitl you try to use them. So the loaders wouldn't find it on the first try (because it is spinning up instead of giving information to the Wii) What hard drive are you using and is it on the Compatibility list?

    1) My HDD never fails using my main USB loader USB Loader GX and has yet to fail with my secondary USB loader Mighty Loader but I haven't used it as much. The only time it's ever failed is if I've accidentally left it unplugged but that's a given.

    2) Yes it's always plugged in. It powers up and down with the Wii.

I assume you have used WD's included software to turn off the power saving features to prevent spin down?

    1) Using CFG loader and never had trouble. If it fails, it's my own fault (harddrive not turned on, settings for a game wrong so it wont start etc)

    2) I leave my harddrive plugged in always. It's a normal drive in an enclosure with a power switch (external power).
If I turn the power on, it waits with powering up until I start the wii but it will never power down unless I turn the power switch off. So usually it's just completely off.

I guess. It doesn't shut off when it's plugged into the Wii when I turn the Wii off, so I have to unplug it. I dunno how to turn on the power saving feature

If you install the WD Smartware that came with the drive one of the options is turn off power saving or something to that extent. I haven't done it in a long time so I can't remember exactly how they word it.

    1) My drive never fails, unless it is my fault.
    2) No, it powers down with the wii, but I still unplug it because I am paranoid about lighting strikes and stuff.

My passport turns on and off just fine when it's plugged into a computer. It just doesn't turn on and off when it's plugged into a Wii. It just stays on.
