    Lag or delay as you called it is is a result of your connection to the host (how far away you are). If you are really far away you will never get smooth gameplay. If you are hosting yourself then you need a decent upload speed (most packages give you very a unbalanced download to upload 10 to 1 or worse). A lot of people mistake lag for framerate issues. If your playing a game like black ops with a lot of stuff happening at once that is more likely what you are encountering.
