    New Red Wii

I have a friend who bought a new Wii. It seems it might have the new D3-2 board. It seems this board is no good, unless you want to boot from something external. Is it ok to just replace the board with an older version? And what one is the best for this machine? Thank you.

Yes it is safe to replace it with any which will allow back up play. Still better off loading via usb though!

Im putting this in for a friend, and they are not very good at computing. So a usb would just throw thing really off to left field....lol But I think its pretty cool, do have to waste money on dvd's anymore! But I will poke around on ebay for a wii board. Thank you!

Not to derail your train of thought or to stop you on your goal but...USB loading is so simple my 5 and 7 YO daughters can do it and I've seen people on here with younger using USB loaders. If you can point the remote at the screen and press A while looking at the box for the game you can use a USB loader. I'm just saying...

Usb loading is the most logical solution, or else just trying to get ahold of an older wii console. Unless you enjoy taking stuff apart and risking physical damage.
