Heat will only kill it if it has bad airflow. My wii never gets that hot though.
Technically, the wii is never off unless you unplug it. Mine is still warm with 24connect and standby off.

I think that is the key. I leave my wiiconnect24 on and I don't have any heat issues. If you you have your wii inside a cabinet and/or surrounded by other electronics that produce heat then you just might run into heat issues.

Counting the LED? The Wii is Off if the light is red.

Also you can leave Wiiconnect24 on and just turn Standby Off (You can do what you want obviously, just pointing that out).
    Damn I suck!!!!

I thought 24connect nd standby were kind of the same thing. I mean, if your wii is off, its not getting updates 24/7 right? There would be no point to wiiconnect24 without standby. Anyway, my gfx card feels hotter in idle after i just turned my pc off. If heat kills anything its dust build up helping it.

Artifacts could also be caused by a bad cable. Possibly the tvs fault also. My old tv had messed up avs ports. All my consoles had artifacts untill I bought a new TV. Just a thought.

The point is for people that don't want to leave the console on all the time but they want wiiconnect24 to be on when they boot.

Mine is not and I don't see why it would be (Unless you were playing it recently).
    Damn I suck!!!!

Hmm, well to see, I unplugged my wii. Its just about as hot as it was when I turned it off, and that was 30 minutes ago. I think the heat does not displace well is all. Its not enough to kill it though.

The only option is to buy the external fan attachment. I cannot find it online but I've seen them at walmart.

ahh i standby could be the issue then but it started doing it ages ago bout year after it was brought wouldnt of thought it would of melted by then? its always been kept upright on its own in my old house so dont see why that would have any problems dispenceing heat. as for where it is now tho....... in a TV unit with a Full size Desktop pc behind the tv unit and 360 to the side then a Sky+ HD box on the other side of 360 so im guessing lots of heat lol turned wii connect off now anyway there no need for it now i have softmodded wouldnt want a pesky update now would i lol.
