massive thanks to fiire, done exactly as you said, and it all works, - that must of been the problem, that the wii mc did not recognise partitions formatted in ntfs, must be fat 32. amazingly even plays all my movies, (which are in avi format by the way). and it also picks up all the pictures, one tiny issue though is that i had some mp3 format music on there, and it could not pick these up, i am sure i read somewhere that it does not recognise mp3 format and it must be ogg format or something like that. so sincerely a huge thanks again, and really appreciate the link for the formatter. essentially when the hdd becomes available, it gives you all the options of where you want to go and look at, data dvd, sd card or usb (hdd). really happy!

I was simply pointing out that there is a very well written guide for this that works great. I don't know why people don't use the great guides we have here as a resource first, and then ask for help. Anyways.. I would tell anyone the same thing if they are asking questions about a well known subject. "There is a guide, why don't you read it" . I don't know why that offended you but it was not my intention.
    Damn I suck!!!!

Just a little trick that I found when having to rearrange my portions on my hdd. If you find you need to do this (meaning taking the iso's off the external hdd) make a folder in your pc and enable compressing withing that folder then extract your iso's to that folder. with compression enabled in that folder its just like having the iso ziped, the file size WILL still read 4.7gb in the details but if you run properties on it you will see that the size on disk is in fact the same as it is on your external hdd with a wfbs partion
