Question about playing *all* classic games on Virtual Console.

Hi, everyone. I was browsing the list of Wii's Virtual Console games, and I was disappointed to find that there are a whole lot of games that aren't there. For example, they have for the old NES Mega Man 1 and Mega Man 2, but not Mega Man 3 or 4 or 5 or 6, and then they have Sonic The Hedgehog 1 and 3, but not Sonic 2. Anyway, it would be like an answer to my video-game prayers if the Virtual Console just simply had every game available for all of the gaming systems it has on there, but since it has a very limited selection, at least compared to the selection of ROMs you can find on the Internet, I was wondering if anyone knows of a way to take ROMs downloaded off of the Internet and get them to play on the Wii.

It seems like the Wii might be the ultimate emulator, if not for its limited selection of classic games, because unlike emulators you run off of a computer, I assume that the Wii's emulation of these games must be totally flawless, whereas with computer emulators, you sometimes run into minor glitches due to the emulator not perfectly emulating its respective console. Like I said, I *assume* that this is never a problem when playing classic games from various consoles on the Wii.

But anyway, if anyone knows of any way to take game ROMs downloaded off of the Internet and get them to play on the Wii, thereby eliminating the problem of Wii's limited selection of classic games, please let me know.

...It is a shame that Nintendo decided to not just have every single one of these games that they could get their hands on on the Wii's Virtual Console, because if they did, I wouldn't have to worry about this and I wouldn't have to feel like I'm cheating Nintendo by not paying anything for these game ROMs that I'll end up playing, but because of them not having all the games available on the Virtual Console, now I'm either gonna find a way to get them on there, or I'm gonna just invest in another computer so that I can play all those great games again, but then if I do that, the money doesn't go to Nintendo, whereas it would if they just uploaded all the games they possibly could onto the Virtual Console.

I'd love to tell them that they should do that, but I'm sure it wouldn't do any good anyway.

But anyway, if anyone knows how to get game ROMs from the Internet to play on a Wii, please let me know. you could use the gamecube side of things and use the emulator for it, load all the roms through there.

Also, Jbloggs, you're saying to download emulators off of that homebrew channel, but I thought that part wasn't necessary because I thought the Wii *was* an emulator of all these classic systems.

...Please forgive me if I sound very newbish. I don't have a Wii *yet*, but I am gonna be getting one very soon. Actually, I would have gotten one already if they had *all* of those classic games on the virtual console, but because they don't, I'm first putting my priorities into getting back into emulation again so that I can have *all* of those classic games. A big part of the reason is 'cause I want to show those games to my little brother and play them with him so he can see those NES and SNES games that were the starts of the greatest Nintendo franchises such as Super Mario Brothers, Metroid, Mega Man, Donkey Kong, F-Zero, Star Fox, Kirby, and last but definitely not least, The Legend Of Zelda, and any other games I'm forgetting to mention.

Basically I want him to see all these great games so that he's familiar with the characters because I already ordered a brand-new Super Smash Brothers Melee GameCube game off of Amazon.com for us to play together on the Wii when I get it, and I want him to already know the characters and stages and items and stuff from that game, 'cause I think that makes that game that much cooler when you're like, "Oh, that's just like from the game!" and when you already know all the characters.

And then after we play Super Smash Brothers Melee a bunch, then I'll play the new Super Smash Brothers Brawl with him. ...But I want him to be able to see and play all these great games first so that he's familiar with them. I even bought brand-new copies of all the old classic Nintendo cartoons that used to be on TV, and he's all excited to watch them, but I've had to make him hold off on that for now 'cause I'm getting a computer with the emulators and ROMs first so he can see and play the games too, 'cause I think that makes those cartoons cooler too.

Don't get me wrong, though. I mean, I definitely want access to all those great classic games too. I just wish the Wii could grant me that wish so that I wouldn't have to go back to emulation. ...But oh well...

Oh, and on a side note about the Wii, I was in Best Buy today -- or I guess it's technically yesterday now because of the hour -- I was in Best Buy to get speakers for the PC I set up the day before 'cause I realized it didn't have speakers with it, and on my way up to the register to purchase the speakers, I saw they had a Wii demo set up with the new Mario Kart game for Wii and one of those Wii steering wheels, so I was like, "I gotta try this." I wanted to see how accurate the steering control was. It feels very accurate and responsive. I love it! Something that's really neat about it is that unlike playing Mario Kart on Super Nintendo or even GameCube, you have real control of your turning. Even with the GameCube's analog controller, I never felt the same control on Mario Kart as you would in a real car, meaning it was harder to turn subtly. I mean, you *could* do that with the analog controller, but for the most part, it kind of felt more like "you're either turning or you're not" than it would in an actual car, but with the Wii steering wheels, if you turn just a little, your car turns just a little, giving you much more control over it and providing a much more realistic feel.

...Ya know, because it's not connected to anything in the same way that typical steering wheels for PCs or other gaming systems are, at times it felt like I was just *pretending* to drive the car in the same way that a little kid might do with a toy steering wheel, but then I was quickly reminded by the great responsiveness that I really was controlling the car.

Hopefully they'll have lots of other driving games to use this wheel with.

The Wii does not have emulator built it, but the actual VC games have the emulator built in, that is why people are 'injecting' other none released classic games into existing VC games to be able to have them as VC channels.

You also have the option of installing a modchip and obtaining a DVD with around 9000 classic games (including all NES and SNES games) that you load directly from the DVD.

Ok. The player ON the wii uses .WAD files. There IS a program to inject roms into already made Wads, but there isn't a way ATM to make your own .WAD files with a picture and all. Yet. I'd just go with the homebrew and roms though, as ROMS are quite a bit smaller in size and can be loaded off your SD card without filling the Wii memory.

I'm very interested in this DVD thing with nine thousand classic games on it. Does it also have every single Sega Master System and Sega Genesis game on it too? Also, where can I find this DVD thing? I assume I have to get it off of the Internet somewhere or something. But where?

Also, I'd like to understand more about injecting ROMs into existing Virtual Console games. I want to know exactly how it is that I do that. Would you mind to either explain it to me, in dummy terms, or direct me to a site that explains it in dummy terms? I mean, once I do it or see it done one time, I'm sure it'll be easy for me, but I'm a very visual learner, so it's hard for me to learn to do something just from written instructions. That's why I'm asking for "dummy" instructions.
