possible bricking question

I'm going to update my wii so i can use the online features. and in case it bricks can i use a unbricking disk? is there any other way i can update my wii so that i can use the shop channel or any other channel? i am using the US version.

You should really just update using the option in the Wii Settings menu. If you really want need to update from a game then, in your case, only use NTSC-U (USA) game to update since your wii is USA version.

i don't know if this is called a brick. at first it tells me system error. i rebooted and it's seems ok. but then i discovered it won't play cd.
