hi all..

first off, I'm new here.. Glad I found this site, could help me a lot with my new Wii.. Just bought it few days ago. The guy said it is already modified.. Bought some games today and tried to play it, but when I insert "The Sims Castaway" an error occured. Something like remove cd and refer to manual for trouble shooting. And I tried the other cd, doesn't have an error note but screen is just black and doesn't display anything..

Could it be the problem is the cd?
Can we know if Wii is modified? I mean I'm not really sure if it is coz when I tried to play the demo before buying the Wii, they only tried the original games though..

Hi kisntel, welcome to the WiiHacks community.

The issue could be due to several different reasons including, bad media, bad iso, burner issue, mod chip may need firmware updating. So it would be matter of trial and error to figure this out. It would be helpful to know the modchip that is installed, may you can ask the person from whom you bought it to see if they know.

Is your Wii NTSC-U (USA), PAL (Europe), NTSC-J (Jap)? What region is the game? What DVD media type and brand are you using? What are you using to burn iso?

The guy who sold it just said that it could play modified games.. uhm, this is a dumb question but how can I know if it's from PAL, at the back of the manual it has USA address though? I'm really sorry for being such a noob

And regarding the iso thingy, have no idea. Just bought the cd at the mall who sells modified games and asked me if my wii is modified already and I said yes and showed me the list of games...

3.3U = NTSC-U (USA) Wii. You should never purchase copies of games from anyone, nobody should profit from this and also you have no control of the qulaity of the backup. Since the Wii is very sensitive regarding the DVD media type (DVD-R) and brands (Verbatim, Sony, TDK, Philips). Also burning them correctly using ImgBurn at 4x speed.

The only sure way to find out what mod chip you have is to open up the wii (which requires a special screw driver called Triwing).

So the options you have it to open up the Wii and checking the modchip type and then see if its at the latest firmware version or Making your own backups using the recommended DVD-R media and burn app or install the homebrew channel and try using the GeckoOS app to load the game. Also you should try to stick to games which are same region as your wii to eliminate region issues.

sir, are there instructions how to install the homebrew channel? and this GeckoOS app, can I get it for free? my apologies for all the questions. I'm new to these kind of stuff.. I'm just excited to play with my wii..

There are TUTS all over about how to install the Homebrew channel, and yes GeckoOS is free. Homebrew is about spreading your homemade fun, so most if not all is free.
