lol yeah to be honest I am a little worried about doing the system menu theme but i've done the usbloader themes without any probs..

Is there any way of telling if your Wii is properly backed up? just so i can make sure before I try something risky..

Make sure you have bootmii/boot2 installed (launches from SD card) and that you have saved a NAND dump to SD.
Not really doing much Wii stuff these days.

I honestly had no idea it could cause brick. I even installed a 4.1 theme on a 4.0, and it worked but the system menus froze ( anything after clicking the system settings). No bricks though.

That SD menu option is for launching bootmii compliant applications, which there aren't many. This is generally not used.

Not obselete, but of limited at the moment because the app would have to be written to run under mini.
