    neww wii dvd drive

As i have a new wii, which cannot play backups through dvds but it works fine on usb,so im going to give it to my cousins who arent computer literate so i was thinking if there was some way like for e.g buying a dvd drive of an older wii and replacing it with the one inside so they can play burned dvds.
    sorry for my bad english.

I don't think that will work. I might be wrong but just changing the shouldn't work. I think it has to do with a drive chip on the mobo also.

    Hey, Neck:

Take it from someone who, you know, actually did it --- it's as simple as that. If you want to get technical, a drive swap out is unnecessary; rather it's the PCB/logic board attached to said DVD drive that needs swapped out. But that'd require an unsolder/resolder of four small lines that end @ power connector on said PCB board (to the spindle motor on the drive itself).

Ahhh not computer literate is the key here I guess. Burned DVD's would be easier but you could always set them up an external drive with enough games to get them going. With USB Loader GX I find it's really easy to use and just as easy to add new games (I tried Configurable USB Loader but GX was less hassle and I didn't really want to configure anything). Personally I think that would be a better investment than a second hand DVD-drive or interface board that you need to buy and then hookup once you get it.

    dvd won't eject

not to be a thread hijacker,
I have searched and can't find the proper place for this ?.
I can't eject the dvd, and I'm assuming it's a bad dvd drive,
it still plays the game, just can't change it.
was going to open it up and take a peak,
can the drive be changed or should I just get another Wii?
    thanks,
    p.s. nice site, lots-O-info.

You can buy that individual part off Flea Bay, but you'd have to be technically-inclined and proficient enough to do it (determination wouldn't hurt either )

Edit: the reply above relating to the eject/motor issue. Yes, you can also do a drive swap out... be aware if it's a newer drive, you'd need to cannibalize your PCB/logic board attached to the Wii drive for use on the replacement (or buy the drive complete). This in case your replacement would be a D3-2 drive...

It's not the drive per se, it's the small circuit board that's mounted to it (you could use yours, for example on a new D3-2 drive so long as you don't mind unsoldering four small wires that lead from it to a spindle on the drive itself). A full swapout including the circuit board provided not D3-2 drive, is a ideal functional drop-in replacement.
