    New Guy Here

Done some reading on softmod for my wii. Was kind of wondering where to start. Read a little about neogamma and homebrew. But basically, I have the v4.2u, havent screwed with anything as of yet, want to get to know a little before I mess something up. But I just got an SD card and some dvd-r's for burning games. Wondering the easiest and safest way to be able to play these. Saw a few things where people had the neogamma backup loader as a channel on their wiis and that seemed pretty simple to use--basically where do I start.

firstly you will need to softmod your wii using the guides on this site. this one should do it for you:

Once you have done this mod, i'm assuming it's a new wii here and you have not updated it, you will need to install a program (or channel) capable of loading from USB. My favourite for this is USB Loader GX. you will then need to format an external Hard Drive using one of the many Hard Drive tools available such as WBFS Manager.

If it is a new wii your new DVD-Rs will be useless as the new wiis are unable to read them thanks to Nintendo shipping them with newer drives.

Yeah, it's fairly new about a week old. Is there a way to tell what drive you have in your wii? Can you check somehow or do you just have to try? Also, is it much harder to use the usb setup with the external drive? Seems like that might be the better route to take anyway cause you won't have to worry about scratching or losing dvds.

the only way to propely check is to try. I recommend the HDD route anyway as it is easier than having a stack of games that you might lose. i have a total of 200+ games now most of which are on a 500GB drive.

Where is the best place to get the games from? I should say the easiest. I don't mind waiting, would just getting the torrents be best?

Also, where would I be able to find USB Loader GX with a tutorial? I looked for a bit on this site and didn't find it, can I get it here?
