I don't have a Wii yet so I wish I could examine the system up close so i can only offer second hand information at this point. The onboard communication capabilities of the remote looks much more promising at this stage than a hack of the SD card slot system so I would expect most modders to do a straight USB or Firewire hack on the Wiimote.
Although it's unlikely that the Mii stored on the Wii remote is an actual image. It's probably just the data to tell the Wii how to build the Mii (head shape: 3, eye style: 5, nose size: 2, etc.)

yeah the Miis are a cool idea, I actually just recieved Mii's from Matticus on this board they just fall into my Wii when he sends them. Its funny, and yeah you can store up 8 Miis i think on the Wiimote.
    Rrrrrol up the Rrrrrrim Stats:

    "Please play again" = 25

Can new Mii customization options be added by Nintendo?

If they can add new channels and other new functionality, then I would assume that they could add additional Mii "parts" if they wanted to. Who knows if they will though.
