The Internet Channel is a version of the Opera 9 web browser for use on the Wii by Opera Software and Nintendo. On December 22, 2006, a free "trial version" of the browser was released. The final version of the browser became available on April 11, 2007 and was free to download until the last day of June; after that the browser was available at 500 Wii Points until September 1, 2009 when it was available for free again.

    Updates

This is a list of updates to the Internet Channel.

    April 11, 2007:

    * Upgraded to the full version.

    October 10, 2007:

    * Added USB keyboard support.
    * Launch time has been reduced.
    * Up to 56 favorites can be saved.
    * Send Favorites to people in the Wii's Address Book.
    * Highlight words on a Web page and copy it to the "Search" function.
    * Type longer messages with reduced lag in the virtual keyboard.

    September 1, 2009

    * Switched from Flash Player 7 to Flash Lite 3.1.
    * No longer have to pay 500 Wii Points to purchase.
    * The size has been reduced.

    Limitations

    * Cannot download / upload files.
    * User may encounter difficulty editing pages with long content due the small text-box

They also added something to it that makes you have to "update" but its a trap, and not everyone gets that message. I downloaded the update from shop channel and it worked fine so.

Firefox would be great to have as a browser on the Wii, but at the moment the only browser is Opera, and until the coders come up a psuedo firefox browser, we're stuck with Opera.
