    Wii graphic distortion/corruption

I've had my Wii for about 3 weeks now and just started seeing some corrupt graphic artifacts in all games.

The distortion looks like a series of vertical bands that run the whole height of the screen--similar to what would happen to an over-clocked & over-heated video card in a PC.

Anyone else experience this? I'm going to give Nintendo a call and see if they can hook me up with a replacement since there's no hope of doing an exchange at walmart before christmas...

Here are a couple of pics to help my description:

hm.......... I hope your not getting image burned permanently onto your screen, when you watch TV you don't still see them do you?

and I do notice that the Wii gets very hot when you just leave it there turned off

nope--definitely not burn in. It seems to fade in and out depending on the texture/colour combination of the image.

I first noticed it after playing zelda for a good 4 hours straight one day and now it's showing up in monkey ball and even wii sports.

I think the graphics chip might be over heating...

Just spoke with Nintendo & they offered to repair the console or send an advanced replacement. I told them that I'll try to exchange it for a new unit at the store and give them a call back if there aren't any in stock.

I recall my friends xbox360 running extremely hot. He bought it recently and it made me understand why so many are defective. As for you problem I will echo the sentiments of others and yourself. It definately looks like a graphics card overheating. Was it in a well ventilated area? Hopefully someone else can report if they also notice this.

The Wii has a 15 month warranty (the regular one year warranty, plus they extend it another 3 months if you register it). So buying an extended warranty is probably not worth the cost in most cases.

What happens when you turn on the Wii after its been sitting off for a couple hours? Do you get that image right away or only after its been on for a while?

I don't have a Wii but I have been reading that a small number of people have been experiencing the same symptoms that you are describing. Here is a link to the site which should answer your questions/concerns about the corrupt graphic artifacts. http://www.wiichat.com/nintendo-wii-...deo-issue.html

No change if it's just turned off but still plugged in--i tried it after being gone all weekend...The case was even a little warm.

I decided to break out the goggles and bunsen burner and do a little experiment. I unplugged the wii last night so that it has absolutely no power running to it at all. It'll try playing tonight when I get home from work to see if 24 hours cool down is enough to fix the glitch (at least temporalily)
