HELP! My brother used a cheap marker on burnt disc and now wii won't read them!
Okay so my brother thought it would be smart to name the wii backups we have. That's okay with me, but he used a cheap marker to do it and he tried to play it but it didn't play. It said disc read error, and now all of my other real games won't read. Nothing reads, help please.
Good thing I used a sharpie to label my discs, no, just playin. Do you really think it was the writing on the disc that wrecked your Wii. You need to find out what caused your Wii to quit playing discs or nobody will be able to help you. You first might tell what system menu version your Wii is.

I just want to know how marker on a disc does anything to the hardware. I have used a marker to label over 1000 discs and never encountered this, never even heard of it.

Well if it was a dry erase marker, I suppose it could be possible (stretching here) heat up in the drive and come off some making the lens dirty. Marker is fine any marker as long as the thing is permanent and stays on the disk. More likely his brother did something else.
I was think that the way the ink would come off the disc and by the way the disc spins, the ink would travel outward from the center of the disc. The laser lens is on the opposite side of where the ink is so would not come in contact with the ink. Now, if ink did actually get on the laser lens then somebody needs to take apart their Wii and clean the marker from the lens, but I too think that is not what happened. Like I said, he needs to supply some stats on his Wii and find out why his Wii isn't playing retail or backup discs. I don't think anyone will be able to help him. If it's just a dirty lens then he will have to take care of that.

If nothing truly has happened to his wii but some marker, he should try a lens cleaning kit before he rips the thing apart.
Do they even make one for the Wii, remember that the Wii doesn't play CDs or any other type DVD besides a Wii retail Game disc. I think that the only way to really clean a lens is with a Qtip, and lens cleaning disc don't work all that well.
