Surprise for Online Wii Users Imminent

Nintendo's Denise Kaigler recently hinted to IGN that a little surprise for internet-connected Wii owners is on the way.

Kaigler was dished praise for the recent updates to the Nintendo Channel, with the latest videos and other exclusive bits adding a little more depth to the service. With that in mind there's a little extra on the way - so Denise says, keep your peepers peeled on the Nintendo Channel for an announcement soon.

"Of course, we're all about providing our fans with surprises, so here's a tease for you: We're working on a little surprise for those who connect their Wii to the Internet, so keep your eye on the Nintendo Channel for that announcement to come in the near future."

So what do you guys think the "surprise" is?

I think it's a trick to get all the modified Wii online, and then bam, bricks for all. That's the back up plan because 4.2 update didn't work the way they wanted it to.

Hehe, had that thought in the back of my mind... although really hoping for something new. I am hoping for Achievements, but thinking I have my sights set too high

Maybe we will be able to download upgrades for our Wii processor and video card so wii can play that new game that came out today, Borderlands.

    New online thing eh?

well heres my realistic guess (well, kinda realistic):

"This new update Compleatly removes friend codes from ALL wii games and and wii itself. Now it uses a system like Steam, PSN, and XBL."

    Now the unrealistic guess:

"This update will not screw with modding of any kind, In game music from the home buttion with music stored on a SD Card, Also all multiplatform games on All consoles + pc can play with each other. Guitar Hero for all consoles can play with each other, COD on all platforms cam play with each other"

I have no clue. Im gonna wait it out.

You'd probably get slaughtered bringing a WiiMote to a gun fight.

    Yea true.

The PC would own them all.

But that would be sick wouldnt it? Playing with people from the PC, 360, PS3 and wii the wii together.

It seems that the surprise is a new update (reported in other forums). It seems to be a shop channel update, but also updates to 4.2 again? Anyone know about it and/or has updated?
