Wii can't read any discs (originals)

I soft modded my wii last weekend, and was last able to put a game in and copy it via USB loader to my HDD on Saturday night.

I went to move the rest of my collection over onto the HD tonight but it fails to read any game, and the same thing happens in USB loader, it can not read the disc.

Wii Menu errors out with
An error has occurred please press the eject button and remove the disk. turn the wii console off

I tried blowing in there etc. Before I flip out and buy an LG drive just so I can get games onto my HD again, does anyone have any suggestions on what I might try?

I was thinking of getting a lense cleaner and some compressed air to give it a go, otherwise I would like to hear your thoughts.

Cheers
Dan

If the lense cleaner doesnt work I have decided I am going to buy a new wii dvd drive for $55 from ebay and try putting that in there. Then also keep hunting around for a cheep LG DVD Rom for the "just in case" scenario.

Has anyone replaced a DVD drive in these, am looking at [Only Registered Users Can See Links. Click Here To Register] but need to know if there are any Gotchas with versions etc.

Cheers
Dan

yeah I have that method already as a thought, however now I have about 30+ games sitting here that I can't even get over to my hard drive unless I buy one of the LG drives that works with wii games.

I don't like downloading games either, and added to that we have pretty lame Bandwidth limitations here. TBH I am not in it for the playing pirated games, I softmodded, mainly out of interest and the ability to move all my games to HD so I didnt have to get them out every time I wanted to play.

It's $55 for a new DVD rom and I am confident I can fit it pretty easily so I think it's a good fix if the lense cleaner doesnt work. Otherwise I will just buy a second hand LG

If you have 30+ games sitting there then I dont know why wonder if you should spend $55 on a replacement drive or not. It would seem that $55 isnt much for you. Even at $20 a piece you put out $1100 on games. lol, just buy it and save yourself a headache of trying all these "fixes" Those CDs that clean the lens arnt free or even cheap I think. At least $15

Orrrrr just get a new Wii, people selling them from $100 to $150 all over the place. If you need another remote+nunchuck thats $60 already, + your $55 drive, seems you cant go wrong buying a whole setup. I did that, I got 3 remotes, 2 nunchucks and a wii, few games, etc etc for $130. I came up on that deal

That is actually a stirling idea. I don't want to buy a new one (i dont want the 4.2 firmware) but a second hand one would actually be pretty good.....to ebay methinks

I am in Australia, unfortunately we have no craigslist, though I am contemplating a move to DC in 12 months, so maybe I should get one sent to a friend there

I would say just replace the dvd drive and be done with it, you wont find a 2nd hand wii for even double the drive price - what state you in ?
