Want to avoid bricking my Wii

Sounds like you are being very sensible. No one can guarantee 100% that something will work, but bootmii/boot2 is about the best thing you can do.
If you click on my sig preloader thats the new 0.30r3 that I have just installed, worked great for me.

It's not mentioned anywhere but that probably only works for 3.2
I can't believe there is no preloader or starfall/startpatch for v3.4
Is there a technical reason for this?

I meant for you to install it after you are on 4.1. There will be a technical reason for preloader not working on 3.4, I guess people have moved on, so why make a hack work for an old system menu. I'm on 3.2 and happy with it, but I realise if I want any new features that come out I'll have to upgrade.

Makes sense but what I don't understand is preloader works on 3.2, it skips 3.3 and 3.4 and then it works again with 4.1 + ??
So to get things straight.
IF I want to install preloader, my system menu must be 3.2 or less OR 4.1 or higher ?

Also, these games updates DO ask if you want to upgrade right?
So if a game needs to update it will ask, I say NO and then I don't play that game right?
Easy enough...
I can wait to see if I hit a game that requires an update -
As far as anyone know, having a 3.4u system, are most games playable already?

thats right for preloader.

As for updates, if a game asks you to update, then you say NO, but you CAN play the game! If its asking to update the nthis is NOT because you have the wrong system menu, its because you are missing or have outdated IOS files, the relevant ones can be downloaded as WAD files and installed. Once you have then installed the disc will no longer ask for updates.

The best thing to do is probably the4.1 updater, then install preloader, if thats what you want to do.

lol i bricked mine for the first time today....TWICE!!
second time was after I tried to install preloader 0.29

BTW before first brick I was on 4.0E now i'm down to 3.0E or sumthing... is there anyway or any point in updating back?
