General questions and thoughts about softmodding

Hello ladies and lads!

I am thinking about purchasing a nintendo Wii, so I got some newbie questions for you!

I can't possibly know for sure what kind of System menus or LUxx I will be getting before purchasing, but hopefully there's a way to softmod it whatever the outcome will be and I will assume it's SM 4.X and LU65+!

I want to softmod it once I get it and I've done some light reading and I believe that bannerbomb would be the best way for me to go through with it.

Assuming that I will not be able to install BootMii on boot2. Will installing it on IOS still be helping me to fix the wii, if bricked, unless it's fully bricked?

If I get it successfully softmodded and I don't play online. Would I still have to worry about getting bricked then or is it just the whole softmodding part that is dangerous?

And about the games, can I use any ordinary HD-drive to put retail games on and play them through the homebrew channel or do I still have to buy dvd-r discs and burn them?

Semi-brick:
Can I only get this by playing games that's not from the same region as my Wii? Obviously I'll play PAL games on a PAL Wii.

Full-brick:
Which different ways are there to get this? Uninstalling IOS and so on?

As I am pretty scared of buying a new Wii and the first thing I do is getting it bricked I'd prefer knowing what I actually am doing.

I've read the FAQ's that I found relevant apart from the one posted earlier in this thread.

A question that's simple but none of the FAQ's that I've read has involved is how do I actually play the games once I have the homebrew channel and an usb-loader(do I still need a modchip)?

Anyways, pretty tired and been reading alot. Might need to take a break and think about it all. I'm getting pretty dizzy with all the different versions and variables. :p I just want to be able to play downloaded games, either on dvds or usb HDDs without worrying. :p

Semi-bricks can be caused by installing updates out of your region, example, PAL Update on NTSC Wii. Full bricks are caused by uninstalling the System Menu IOS. An LU64 Wii would probably come with 3.4 which means uninstalling IOS50 will give you a full brick. As for running games, after you install a cIOS and get a loader, you're good to go.

So basically I can not get a fullbrick unless I modify or uninstall IOS's?

Simply put yes. Never Uninstall any IOS with a number under 200.

Got my Wii yesterday and when I was trying to find the "LU64/65+" I found "LEH248+"

What does this mean? I've found answers saying it's an european region and other answers saying it's the "new" serialnumbers.

Is it still softmodable?
