Wii coming out with DVD or HDDVD support?

can anyone tell me if Wii is coming out with DVD or HDDVD support? because i need a DVD player badly.... A blu-ray would be better... but I dont think the Wii will have it anytime in the near future...

Japan is getting DVD playback soon. In North America: maybe. HD-DVD: Doubtful.

I agree. Nintendo remains focused on providing a straight no frills gaming machine to keep prices competative. I doubt we will see any DVD add ons.

If you are looking for a cheap blu ray player the ps3 is actually the cheapest on the market (the last time I checked). I am not sure but, I think microsoft is going to try and push the HD-DVD player. Besides the GC never played anything but games.....oh and LOVE awwwww lol

The Blu-Ray and HD-DVD is quite hot right now. Xbox 360 has an HD-DVD player extension for $200 and the PS3 is definitely the cheapest Blu-Ray player with additional capabilities. I would hold off buying any of them until the war has settled.

That said, Dvd's might still win the ware. Whoever wins between HD-DVD and BLU-RAY may actually create a market similar to the laser disc. Popular but, more of a niche. Some peopel still dont' have dvd players as it is.

Interesting point. I think whether or not it becomes a niche market will ultimately depend on Sony and how much they lower the price of the PS3 over time.

DVD players are cheap lately. Maybe around 30 bucks.

But those with HDTV's have to get HD formats or else there was no point getting an HD tv

I agree. I'm interested to see where this whole thing goes.As someone mentioned, not everybody even has a DVD player yet. Then figure that only something like 1 in 5 people have an HD tv set...They both seem to be impressive technologies, but with no clear winner in the race yet, I'm pretty reluctant myself to get either one (that and I don't have an HD TV yet - that's coming next year hopefully)
