What is neogamma and what do I need it for?

I recently just got my Wii softmodded. My cousin has the modchip.
We both tried burning Isos to DVD+R to play games. Neither of our Wiis will read the disc.
I heard something about neogamma r6 or something.
What is it for? Do I need it to play games? How do I use it? Please help, I am a complete noob when it comes to Wii hacking

DVD+R will never work on a Wii unless you wish for your disc drive to die. Use DVD-R/DVD-R DL
Neogamma is required (along with cIOS) to play backup copies on softmodded Wii's and occasionally bad games on hardmodded wii's.

NeoGamma is a backup loader for people who hacked their wii without modchips. Since wii games run on things called IOSs which come in different versions etc: IOS30, IOS60 etc. The Original IOSs which have numbers under 200 are made to run original games but cannot run backups, softmod basically downgrades a couple of these IOSs are allows to install a custom IOS249. NeoGamma runs games off of this IOS249. That's how'd i put it in simple language. If you want to softmod here is a guide:

i did the tutorial you gave me up to step 5.
In step 5, I didn't want the preloader so i didn't install it.
but where do I get the stuff needed for step 5, part D?
    This:
    d) In the Preloader menu select Homebrew Channel (if you didn't install Preloader then just open HBC as normal), run Wad Manager 1.4, use default settings (IOS249 & SD card) and install these wads from the 'wad' folder:

    IOS38-64-v3610
    IOS50-64-v4889
    IOS53-64-v5149
    IOS55-64-v5149
    NeoGammaR7

    I don't have that.
    Where can I get them?
