Decided I would open up a can of worms here. Was curious why people PIRATE games. yes I said pirate, the word "backup is used almost as a synonym to piracy." Let's share our views, but be ready to have people with opposing views counter yours!

I do agree with you that most people who use the word, backup use it because it doesn't sound as bad as 'stealing games'
I admit i do steal games.... however i do purchase the game if i like it.... i actually like having the boxes and all that.. I guess its still stealing but it doesn't feel that way to me... i guess im just trying to justify it to myself?
I wanted a Wii for the party/fun aspect of having one, but there were and still are very few games i can justify wanting to spend $100 AUD on.
Some other consoles i dont find it so hard E.G PS3
But as well as that in a region were i live it can be hard to get your hands on Wii games, ADSL doesnt have that issue.
Well, I live in Israel, and the games here are highly overpriced. A wii game is about 100$ here, and there's no justification for this kind of price. I do buy some games, especially the ones that I like.
Come on guys. Just admit it. We get them because we are cheap. That's what it all comes down to in the end anyways.
But, I will buy good games after I've tried them. That's about 1/10 games. =]
Yup, gotta admit, its cos I am cheap. there is no way I could afford to buy games for it. I had the console for 3 months before I got it chipped and in the 3 months I never bought an additional game. Of the games I have downloaded (about 30) I would say only 3 or 4 are any good.
The only argument I can use (and its not a good one) is that I am not ripping the organisation off monatarily, because if I didnt have it chipped I wouldnt have brought the games anyway.

But i also think alot of people do the same as i do and i think that is the best way you know youre money is spend well.
Thats the idea of backups.
Okeay, USA an JP start a nuclear war, just think about it. All Nintendo Games will die, but the backups survive because we Europeans downloaded a copy .....
I can do backups of your picture collection from your naked girlfriend if you want me to .....
i do actualy want to back up my games when i chip my d2c because of my kids who scratch them for fun, but also i have had other consoles with mods and while i did buy some games for them (the real good games) they where few and far between, the amount of times a game is worth 40 GBP is probably slightly more then i have bought legit over the years, but some times i thank my lucky chip i didn't shell out that much money. so yes i'm just as guilty
i want to try b4 i buy and play imports early, the percentage of people who do steal games is less than people who don't because the game developers keep making money and games. it doesn't cost more to make a game than your average hollywood blockbuster but the prices they charge are a hell of a lot higher.
so forgive me if i don't lose too much sleep over the poor old multi millionaire game companies
