    Brick Prevention / Recovery Options

I have a softmodded wii that I play around with as well as a hard modded wii that I dont mess with much.

I wanted to ask a few questions relating to what software / tools are currently available and what ones are a MUST that should be used to help prevent a bricked wii incase something was to go wrong.

If Im reading correctly the 2 options are:

    1. BootMii
    2. PreLoader

    Questions:

    1. Quote: install BootMii as boot2 if possible or as an IOS if boot2 is not available

Why would boot2 not be available? is this related to the wii hardware version? or?

    2. I have read that preloader has to be re-installed after each update, is this the same for bootmii?

    3. Can / Should you have both BootMii + Preloader installed?

    4. What other recover measures can be put in place to help prevent / recover from a bricked wii?

    5. IF you dont have BootMii / PreLoader Previously installed and you happen to brick your wii is there anyway to recover it using hardware such as:

    Wasabi Dx + SaveMii / SaveMiiFrii ?

    Thanks for your time.

    1. bootmii as the boot2 may not be possible because in newer wii's (after November 08 i think) they patched the boot2 (i think its called boot2v3?) so team twiizer haven't figured away to do it yet.

    2. No bootmii will never be affected because system updates don't effect the boot2.

    3. Yes you can have both of them installed. i personally have both just to be safer then sorry .

    4. there is the savemiifrii trick but not many have gotten that to work.

    5. Like i said savemiifrii but it usually doesn't work.

    Your welcome

    This time i made sure....

Thanks jonathanb9595 for the speedy reply,

So just another quick question, If BootMii cannot be installed in boot2 and has to be installed as an IOS, would it then be affected by a system update and have to be installed again?

    Thanks again.

    nand recovery

i installed bootmii as boot2, system 3.2u, did a nand back up, the tried to install several ios to get gh5 working. When nothiing worked and i thought i screwed up the ios's , i wanted to restore my nand. However, bootmii now says the dump is for a different wii?? I did another nand backup and tried to restore right after to test he program and it says the same thing...dump is for a different wii.

Did anybody else have this problem and how to fix it?

    thx
