Wink Wii USB Harddrive Brands - What works, what does not work

my long and painful testing tells me that Western Digital harddrives are the best for wii, and also for storage extra copies of wii games.

I have a LaCie 1TB and it works with USB Loader GX only in a fiddly way, and only like plugging it in when the Loader loads, and not have it pre-plugged... and often it cannot be detected by the Loader

So I convert the LaCie into extra storage of wii games... and funny how all the games come up 3.98Gb instead of 4.32Gb as total volume...

anyways, WD never has this fiddly problem... it works pre-plugged before the Loader loads, and always get detected by the Loader

So the point of this post is to tell ppl that please only get WD harddrives...

Also ppl share your thoughts on any non-WD that you are using that somehow does not have any problems too

    cheers

I have only used one type of drive. Its a Iomega 320GB passport. I partitioned it with 100GB WBFS and 200GB FAT. No issues works well with USBGX and neogamma r6. I have the games on the WBFS and the iso's on the FAT. I guess I was lucky choosing drive that worked straight off.

I have a western digital mybook essentials 1tb. Powers on and off with the wii, has it's own power supply. Runs perfect.

did you try to format the whole drive to FAT32 first before you WBFS it? only FAT32 works for the wii....

I have tried both a 60gb Lacie 2.5" which worked ok and now I am using 300gb Maxtor Disk inside a Welland Enclosure (which I believe are the same as Vantec)

    WELLAND INDUSTRIAL CO., LTD. 唯聯工業有**公司

System menu 4.0e with cIOS 13b and USB Loader GX 600 ish (can't quite remember)

Yes, I downloaded the WD tool and formatted it, I then ran WBFS Intelient GUI which formatted it to WBFS.

When I plug it into the Wii, and use either USB Loader GX 1.1 or USB Loader 1.5, but neither app can see the drive, and promptly displays a message 'waiting for slow usb drive' and counts down from 30secs.

    I have a 3.2E Wii

I assume you've tried either USB Port? Iknow it only works in one particular port on mine!
